QUERY TIPS

1. Include surnames in CAPITAL LETTERS in the subject line and the first time you use it in the query.

2. Be specific. People do not often respond to queries such as "Send me all information about the POWELL family"

2. Be specific. People do not often respond to queries such as "Send me all information about the POWELL family"

3. Check online sources for answers to general research questions before posting to a list. Genealogists love to help those who help themselves.

4. Try to stay away also, from using too many abbreviations unless your space is limited. Many researchers may not recognize the abbreviations you are using.

5. Try to use an email address you will be sticking with. There are thousands of queries on the Internet with no way to reach the posters because the email address is invalid.

Posted 2/23/09                                                                                                                                                                            POWELL family.  George Lincoln Powell, b. Danville, PA 23 Sep 1862 to John and Mary Powell.  Moved to Chester, PA in 1888, and married Mary Alice Jones (b. OH 1867, daughter of Wm. & Ann W. Jones) in Houtzdale, PA.  George & Mary lived in Chester, PA, where they had 3 children:  Mary Alice, b. 1890; Annie Gertrude, b. 1893; and George Andrew, b. 24 July 1895.   I have many documents on George L.'s family but very little on his parents.  Although it appears that the John and Mary Powell found in 1860 census in Danville with several children are his parents and siblings, I cannot be certain without more information.  I hope my info helps someone with their research and look forward to info on John and Mary or the parents of George L. Powell.  Scott Powell, Sr.  Cell #215-446-6373   Email:  scott.powell@dhs.gov
Posted 2/23/09                                                                                                                                                                                      My name is John Gubancsik and I am researching my GUBANCSIK surname.  I have found several GUBANCSIK's that immigrated from Hungry and stated on their passenger records that they were going to Youngstown, Ohio.  This would have been between 1900-1920.  I have been able to find only one record in Mahoning Co.  That is a WW1 draft reg. card for Andy GUBANCSIK.  It showed he lived on Washington St. in East Youngstown.  It was dated 12 Sep 1918.  Andy was born 30 Nov 1885 in Hungry.  Any information on GUBANCSIK's in Mahoning Co. would be appreciated.  My email address is jgubancsik@hotmail.com.
Posted 5/29/09                                                                                                                                                                                          I am Albert Lee I live in UK and together with an Australian cousin Faye are researching our joint Bagwell ancesters.  We seek descendants of Charles John Bagwell born in London July 7 1875 and who we believe emigrated to Ohio Mahoning via Canada.  Prior to emigration he was like his father a skin dresser and known as Jack.  He came to Canada on the steamer Parisian from Liverpool departing July 23 1903, giving his destination as Peterborough Ontario but moved to Youngstown Ohio USA about 1910.  In 1919 we have his wartime alien registration showing he was married to an Esther E and working at Truscon Steel Corp, probably as a pattern maker.  He appears in the 1920 census with Esther E and a son Rudolf Bagwell living in Mahoning and again in 1930 censusWe do not have Charles John Bagwells death but his widow Esther E died in Aug 13 1961.  We believe Rudolf Bagwell was a civil engineer who died before 2008 but there is at least one son Kenneth Bagwell who may be alive.  We believe his mother was Roberta "Bobs" Bagwell a professional photographer who died in 2008.  We are keen to make contact with any living relatives to see if the trail above is really Uncle Jacks.  Our Bagwell line goes back to the late 1600s in Exeter, Devon England.  We hold many early victorian papers and photographs including uncle Jacks which we could share with genuine relatives. Please contact me Albert Lee via email at piscator60@live.com

Posted 3/24/10                                                                                                                                                                                                        I am looking for the 1896/7 marriage record for William PORTER   b. 23.5.1866 in Hednesford, Staffordshire, England; emigrated to the US c. 1885 and Jennie ( maiden name unknown) b. 10.1.1872 in Rotherham, Yorkshire, England; emigrated to the US c.1890.The 1900 US Census has them living in Youngstown, so I am assuming that they married there. I have tried the IGI  but to no avail, although I have managed to track them via the US Censuses up to 1930. I have also found their death records.
I should be most grateful if someone could help me with this - I really need to find Jennie's maiden name.I have a good deal of information about the English ' Porter ' line which I am willing to share with relatives.    valyoung@sky.com

Posted 11/25.11                                                                                                                                                                                                    I'm looking for information about the LOPUSCHANSKY family from Poland. After surviving the Holocaust in at least one concentration camp, Dmytro Lopuschansky arrived in New York on April 26, 1951, and joined someone
(his brother?) in Campbell, Ohio. Eventually, Dmytro left Campbell and at some point ended up in Athens, Ohio. Based on my research so far, I believe one of Dmytro's relatives (John Lopuschansky) attended Chaney High School in Youngstown. I'm especially looking for info about Dmytro's pre-United States life: which Polish city/town was he from,
which concentration camp(s) was he in, where was he between the end of WWII and coming to the U.S., etc. Anyone who has any information, please
respond to: bspragg@columbus.rr.com

Searching for info on  "MISS EMELINE MOORE" {sic} who's address was DUCK CREEK, TRUMBULL COUNTY, OHIO according to a letter dated September 9, 1853.
She was sent a letter from a student at the POLAND ACADEMY in POLAND OHIO; and it appears they were courting.  A confusing thing is that his last name appears to be MOORE as well.  Either ASHLY or A.S. MOORE.  He was attending the Poland Academy, which was a school that William McKinley taught at, in 1853.
